Summer 1

Dear Parents,

I hope that you all had a lovely Easter and your children have enjoyed their 2 weeks off school.

During our Science topic this half term we will be looking at Everyday materials. Look out for the new research log overview to give you some ideas of things that you can find out with your children.

The home/school reading books were a massive success last half term with many children writing and drawing pictures about the books they read at home. I have been very impressed with the level and amount of work we have been receiving. These books will continue to be sent home so please encourage your child to write about the books they are reading. Children have been making excellent progress in reading overall and you may notice that they are bringing home more challenging books over the next few weeks. The class read is “The Twits” which we have already started to read together this week.

During our English lessons children will continue to build upon their punctuation skills and will be using commas and apostrophes a lot more during lessons. We will be working on ways to include question and exclamation marks on a daily basis. Children will be looking at new poems, letter writing, instructional writing and recounts.

We will be focusing on addition and subtraction, place value, capacity and volume, fractions, position and direction, time and looking at 2d and 3d shapes during our maths lessons. I have sent home a copy of the times tables we will be covering which are 2’s, 10’s 5’s and 3’s. Please help your child to learn these at home.

If you want to discuss anything with me please feel free to talk to me at home times so that we can arrange a time for us to meet.

Thank you

Miss Abbot
