Spring 1

Welcome back and I hope that you have all had a lovely Christmas.

This half term we have lots of fun things planned in year2.  We have started our new Science topic of life processes in class.  You should have all received a new outline of this in your child's research logs.  During this topic we will be looking at plants, animals, humans and habitats in more detail.  We have some fun experiments and investigations planned as well as growing our own seeds which your child will bring home to look after.

During our English lessons we will be writing for different purposes this includes writing letters, newspaper reports and instructions.  We will also be focusing on punctuation where children will become more familiar with the use of commas and question marks.  Please keep reading at home as the children have made great progress in this area during the Autumn term.

In Mathematics we will be continuing to learn our multiplications and will begin to work on some strategies for solving division calculations.  We have also got some fun lessons planned based on mass and weight.  Please encourage your children to discuss 2d and 3d shapes at home.

PE lessons will continue to be on a Thursday afternoon I will send their kits home at the end of the half term to be washed.

Please feel free to drop in for a chat or to talk about your child's progress after school each Thursday for our drop in session (3.30-4.00pm)

Thank you

Miss Abbot
