Autumn 2

Dear Parents,

I hope that you have all had a lovely break.  In year 2 this half term we will be introducing the Geography topic of My World.  We will be looking at maps, places around the world, weather around the world and the differences between where we live and Ecuador.  Please continue to complete research logs with your child at home as this is a great way for them to find out more information and allows them to feedback to their peers.

During our English lessons we will be focusing on writing for different purposes and traditional tales.  Children will be encouraged to use a range of punctuation and will start bringing home class spellings to practise and learn.  These are the spellings that children will frequently use in their writing during lessons.  We have given your child a new reading book which we hope will push them and allow their reading skills to develop further.  These books will be changed at least twice a week so please ensure they come into school daily.

We will be looking at dividing and multiplying during our maths lessons.  Every child should have a copy of the multiplications we are learning in school.  We will also be looking at fractions and capacity and volume.

In RE we will be looking at special celebrations and sacred times.  We will also be covering a lot of fun Christmas activities where we will learn about the meaning of Christmas.

PE sessions are on a Thursday afternoon and your child should keep their kit in school at all times.  We will send it home again before the Christmas holidays so that it can be washed.

Feel free to drop into class on Thursdays straight after school during our drop in session to talk to me about your child or discuss any issues.

Thank you

Miss Abbot
