Welcome to Year 1

Welcome to Year 1, a very special year as your child will start the next stage of their learning. This year we have an exciting group of 27 Year Ones to continue their school journey.

Leaving the Early Years Foundation Stage behind them, they are now following the National Curriculum which means that lessons become a little more formal and you will notice changes in the way your child is learning.  In Year 1 all children work in groups or individually to produce pieces of work every lesson.  This work is often hands on and results in a photograph being stuck into your child’s book.  All work is differentiated meaning that your child is working at their level. Everyone is expected to have a go and do their best every day.

Reading is incredibly important for your child’s progress.  We will read with your child at least twice a week and appreciate you reading at home as often as you can (preferably ever day) to support this.

Thursday 3.30pm - 4pm is our drop in day.  This is an opportunity for you to come and talk with child about their learning and work.  We are also available when you bring your child to school and collect them at the end of the day.  Please do not hesitate to speak to us.
